Kerry and I opened Let them eat Toffee in June 2009. Led by faith and spirit, we discovered Newnan after first falling in love with Serenbe. We had already settled my in-laws (age 88 &89)
at Wesley Woods after moving them from Gainesville, Florida in March. Between Kerry losing his job and the economic collapse in late 2008, we knew we wanted to open a toffee and chocolate shop... we just didn't know where. In April, we had been exploring opportunities in Serenbe when we came to buy a book in Newnan for a birthday present. Scott's Bookstore had the book, wrapped it, and as we were driving around the square, we were lured by its authenticity and charm. Our current location was available but not yet advertised. Jodie Shepherd showed us the space and the rest is history. The Toffee recipe originated from Kerry's Mother and the chocolate was used by our friend and mentor, Pierre Vivier... a French Chocolatier. He and his wife, Rainy were our backyard neighbors in Tallahassee for 27 years.
As Kerry steps back from the day to day operations and production of our confections, our gals and I continue to create and explore all the opportunities that are available. Especially now, as the benefits of dark chocolate as an antioxidant and anti depressant becomes more known.
As we prepare for a new normal, the courage and faith that lead us to Newnan, will strengthen our business and our presence in the community. NEWNAN STRONG!
