NCHS Lecture Series: Living in Coweta County (Feat. Benny Roger Smith)

Date: Sept 17, 2019
Location(s):
The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society's 2019 lecture series - "Living in Coweta County"- is back after its summer hiatus. For our September lecture, we have partnered with the Coweta County Genealogical Society to present a lecture on the Land Lottery System of Georgia in the early 1800s. Our presenter is land-lottery expert Benny Roger Smith.

The land lotteries made land and a source of income available to most anyone who could qualify both in Georgia and across the country. Learn all about this process and hear some interesting stories of sales and resales.

Benny Roger Smith is an amateur genealogist and active volunteer with the Douglas County and Campbell County Genealogical Societies. He has authored six books and co-produced “The Heritage of Douglas County.”

Please join us at the The Historic Train Depot, 30 East Broad Street, at 6pm when the doors open. The speaker will begin at 6:30pm. Light refreshments will be served.
