2020 Main Street Newnan Plan of Work

I. Promotion

  • Host approved 2020 MS events
  • Create and post content to social media
  • Review, evaluate and update MS website as needed
  • Publish adopted 2020 Plan of Work on the Main Street website
  • Host National Preservation Month event with Newnan-Coweta Historical Society
  • Work alongside Keep Newnan Beautiful to Host Smoke Free Litter Free Events
  • Disseminate weekly e-newsletters
  • Support Placemaking initiatives during events
  • Explore updating website design for Mainstreetnewnan.com
  • Review and update MS event registration forms and policies
  • Create work plans for events using project management software
  • Explore options for special district marketing
II. Organization
  • Maintain Status as a Georgia Exceptional Main Street Program and membership with National Main Street Center.
  • Continue to promote participation within the Main Street Newnan program
  • Continue to support the Newnan Placemakers Program
  • Maintain & further develop current volunteer internship program
  • Assist with the adoption of MS Program 2020 Operational Budget
  • Attend monthly DDA Board Meetings
  • Continue to develop web-based listservs to encourage new downtown partnerships and information outlets.
  • Continue to develop an active web-based downtown business listing, and general event calendar
  • Develop and maintain existing partnerships with Newnan Coweta Board of Realtors, Newnan Ambassadors, Newnan Coweta Historical Society, Coweta County, Keep Newnan Beautiful, Newnan Coweta Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • Host networking meetings, and program meetings as needed
  • Develop event sponsorships
  • Update biennial strategic plan for Newnan DDA
  • Support partnership with Keep Newnan Beautiful to raise awareness about waste reduction in Downtown Newnan
  • Work alongside partners to complete projects outlined in Placemaking Master Plan

III. Design

  • Continue to encourage proper rehabilitation projects by hosting free design review meetings.
  • Consider updating commercial design guidelines for district
  • Reevaluate the design criteria relevant to the Main Street Newnan Façade Grant Program
    • Reference the Commercial Design Guidelines for Downtown Newnan to compliment the Façade Grant Program.
    • Adhere to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation when reviewing Façade Grant applications.
    • Explore the consideration of back alley access as potential “second facades”.Determine criteria.
  • Support Planning and Building departments to encourage sensitive rehabilitation projects
  • Support Beautification department during downtown projects
  • Support the Downtown Sanitation Program
  • Continue to expand the Share with Care program
  • Partner with Keep Newnan Beautiful to install additional Pet Waste Stations.
  • Encouraging sensitive adaptive reuse and rehabilitation projects by assisting property owners with historic design planning.
    • Assist property owner with determining the date of construction
    • Assist property owner to create an interpretation plan based on the character of the structure and the surrounding district.
    • Providing relevant historic maps of the structure’s location
    • Providing relevant historic photos of the structure
    • Providing relevant historic photos of Downtown Newnan
  • Work alongside partners to implement An Alley Reimagined Plan
  • Expand Vacant Storefront Program to include partners from the local art community, and incorporate Placemaking projects
  • Expand curbside marketing efforts by featuring 4 downtown corners as pilot projects
  • Investigate Parklet Program
IV. Economic Restructuring
  • Continue dissemination of “The Story of The Week” as a frequent information outlet to share trends in Downtown Development, and Economic Development with business owners and program participants.
  • Promote financial incentives that are offered for the redevelopment, revitalization or rehabilitation of downtown properties.
  • Investigate opportunities to promote commercial real estate that is for sale or lease downtown.
  • Investigate Pop-Up Storefront Program
  • Investigate District Naming & Master Plan for NE Corridor pf Downtown Newnan
V. Professional Development
  • Attend Statewide Georgia Downtown Association Conference.
  • Attend training required by the Georgia Main Street Program
  • Attend other professional developmental opportunities in Economic Development, Placemaking, Historic Preservation and Community Development.
  • Consider participation in the Georgia Placemaking Collaborative
