History of the Building

At 12 Jefferson Street, Heirloom Donuts has become a popular spot, offering a delightful selection of coffee, tea, donuts, and a wide variety of desserts. this beloved donut shop occupies a building with a rich history of various businesses. the building’s story began in 1885, when it was first documented as a private residence, serving as a home until 1895. By the year 1900, the space had transitioned into a barber shop. In 1927, 12 Jefferson Street was home to a blacksmith shop, showcasing a shift towards more a more industrial age. The building saw a significant change in 1931 when L.H “Hamp” Smith established “U Save It,” a discount store that called the building home for several decades. In1967, the space was occupied by A. E Harper Jr. Insurance, which offered auto, fire, and marine insurance until 1974. In 2013, before Heirloom Donuts, the building was home to the girls clothing store Kendra’s, which later moved to the square and rebranded as Fashion Ten.
