The Sunrise on the Square Labor Day Road Race is a local favorite, and has been held annually in Downtown Newnan on the Saturday before Labor Day for over 40 years!
Due to the COVID-19 Crisis, we will be hosting a "hybrid" race this year. We will still offer the in person race on September 5, 2020 at 8am, but we will also allow for runners to "Race at your place". At the in person race, runners will be released in waves to properly social distance. Chip timing is able to precisely measure your race results by registering your race chip as you run across timing mats located throughout the race course. Your individual clock starts as soon as you pass over the mats located at the starting line, and likewise ends as you cross the mats at the finish line. Race at your place runners can participate (or just support!) at their homes or their favorite running route. Both race runners and race at your place runners will receive a race t-shirt!
The race begins in Downtown Newnan and spans through “The City of Homes,” where runners will catch a glimpse of our beautiful, historic in-town neighborhoods and commercial district.
The race features a 5k USATF certified course (chipped timing), where runners will enjoy the diversity of terrain, including: long flat stretches, downhill, and uphill sections. The Sunrise on the Square Labor Day Road race welcomes both runners and walkers of all skill levels.
This race will benefit the Newnan/Coweta Boys & Girls Club
. The Newnan/Coweta Boys & Girls Club works with hundreds of kids and teens each year to help them reach their full potential.
